POSTPONED – Bishop Burton on Sunday

Morning all,

With more snow and deep freeze on the way we have taken the decision to POSTPONE!

The decision to postpone has been a difficult one to take (I think the last time was the dressage when we were flooded some years back) but now taken it is quite a relief.

We have also taken the decision that the combined training competition should be on a separate day if we can.

As soon as the dates and venues are sorted I will let you know, obviously what ever date is produced I am very aware that it will not suit all so apologies in advance.

I will obviously do my best for the majority of our members.

PLEASE NOTE HOWEVER THAT BISHOP BURTON IS OPEN AS USUAL FOR BUSINESS (please check their website for details of upcoming events)”Can I make it clear that we as a venue are open for business, we have a full day of dressage scheduled on saturday and will not have to make the decision to cancel that unless we have more snow (which may or may not happen). I am anxious that it is made clear that your cancelling Sunday is precautionary as the only areas we cannot currently use are the outdoor arenas.

I dont want people put off coming to Saturdays show or trying to book for Sunday because your show is off, as currently we are operating as normal and roads and car parks are all clear and gritted and indeed full of about 1,000 people for a farming open day that is on in the arena.

As a venue we are open for business and that we take risk assessment and safety very seriously and would immediatly cancel anything that presented a risk to horse, vehicle or human. We will keep our website updated as to the status of our events and opportunities to hire if anyone is in any doubt.” Kim Knightley Equine Director Bishop Burton College 01964 553087

Thanks and cheers Richard.

Update and times for Bishop Burton 12th Feb 2012

Hi
I have attached a plan for the site as some people may not have been before. Plan Please also make sure you don’t use you sat nav to find the entrance, they have a tendency to send you though the old entrance. THIS WILL NOT GET YOU IN, YOU WILL BE TURNED BACK. You need to enter by the new entrance, about a half mile to the west of the village on the A1079. Then follow the signs for the equestrian centre.
If you are arriving in a car without a trailer, you must use the main car park, you will not be allowed to park in the box park, we simply do not have the room.
There is no smoking allowed on site even in the open air. If you do need to smoke, you can do it inside your vehicles.
Riders going to the dressage arenas must cross at the horse crossing point where there will be a steward, they should then ride along the horse walk and not along the road (arrows on plan).
Please keep your horse in walk unless you are in a designated warm up area. There will be no room for any lunging of horses in the warm up areas. Space in the warm up areas is limited and a limit will be set on the maximum number of horses to be allowed in at any one time, so please check with the steward before entering.
I hope the above does not sound too “jobsworth”

Lets hope for a swift thaw and sunshine for next Sunday.

Denise

Jobs at Area 4 shows 2012

The 2 attachments are the list of duties that need to be covered at all the shows and a proposed list of which clubs will be responsible for running which event.

Club Job Rota 2012
jobs at shows

This system has worked well at the winter dressage and the winter SJ and will be implemented this year.
As an example at the summer SJ show at REC Northallerton and Eldwick are shown as the clubs that will organise and run the show. That means they will between them organise the office, putting up and taking down of all the arenas, organise arena parties etc. etc.

Please read them, look at what you have to do and then start to liaise with the other clubs and organise yourselves. I propose that at the meeting on Monday (30th Jan) we all agree which of the clubs takes on the role of the Point of Contact.

Can you also look at the job list to see if I have missed anything off. It may well be that we do not have to do all the jobs but it is best to have then shown ad then cross them off in the 1st instance for example REC always do the car parking.

Once your club has done that event (except when XC is involved when you will have to send 2 FJ for the duration) you will not be required to do another job this year.

There are a minimum of 2 clubs for each event so that the workload is shared and I think I have accounted for every club in the area. As the 1DE is going to be a very long day I have shown 5 clubs with ARea 2 assisting, Darrowby please note that I have put you down to help at the 1DE I know you helped at the winter dressage and hope that with this experience you will be of great assistance at this event.

Before anyone moans and says that they have to travel or that their membership is down on last year or that they can not ask their members to be there all day or X..Y…Z… please look at what you have to provide. If there are clubs that want to do a mutual swop then let me know, if your cub has a valid and genuine reason as to why you can not do the event please let me know.

I know that this is short notice for you to discuss it with your clubs committee but it is time to take some responsibility for the organisation of our qualifiers.

I already know that Silsden can not make the meeting but if there are any others will you let me know.

As of Dec this year it will be compulsory to start paying £1 per horse plus the travelling for the dressage judges, rather than put the entry fees up we need to look at ways of saving money. About 18 months ago 2 clubs did some in depth research into getting our own radios but we never went any further. I will resurrect their reports, cost them up and bring it to the meeting on Mon where we will make a definite decision whether to purchase.

Area 4 managed to obtain the 5 places for the Steward Training weekend, apparently it was over subscribed causing HQ to ballot, therefore Mary, Jann, Margaret, Sharon and myself will be attend the training the weekend after the indoor S.J. so if you want us to raise any topics then please let us know on Monday. Training in hat tagging will be the hot topic and how we will do it before the qualifiers might need to be discussed I think that between the 5 of us we may need to come to your club shows where we can tag them prior to the qualifiers as I think this will have a knock on event with the RC insurance, i.e. if you are running a club event and an accident occurs was the rider wearing a hat that was suitable.

Thanks and cheers Richard.

Area 4 Hunter Trial 2012

The hunter trial on Sun 18th March at Frickley seems to have caused a few enqs with myself and HQ…… hopefully this will help you explain it to your members:-

• This is a new team of 4 competition for 2012.
• AREA 4 will not be doing direct entry to the final but will hold a qualifier where 3 teams will qualify.
• this was agreed by the committee at one of the area meetings last year.
• NO prelim fee is required.
• Although not set in concrete I am looking at £55 a team (will agree this at the next meeting).
• there will be 2 courses a novice and an intermediate.
• 2 members will do the novice course and 2 members will do the intermediate course.
• Teams can consist of any combination of junior or senior members i.e. 4 seniors, or 3 juniors and 1 senior, or 2 seniors and 2 juniors etc…….
• I think we can cope with 52 teams during the day so in the first instance I suggest that we limit the number of teams to 3 per club and then if space accept additional entries if we have space, on a 1st come 1st served basis (will agree this at the next meeting).

Thanks and cheers Richard.

Combined Training Qualifier at Bishop Burton

Hi
As you know the area is running a combined training qualifier along with the show jumping at Bishop Burton in Feb.
Please see attached rules for the combined training qualifier, because they are not in the 2011 rulebook.
Each club may send a maximum of 1 junior and 1 senior team. The area entry fee is yet to be confirmed.
The combined training championship will be at the Festival of the Horse at Aston Le Walls.

For the show jumping, each club may send a max of 2 Junior and 2 Senior teams.
The show jumping championship is at Hartpury.
Also remember as stated in the AGM mins, there are optional qualifiers for Windsor Horse Show also running concurrently with the team jumping and the dressage part of the Combined training.
I hope this all makes sense. It is quite complicated, I hope I have made it clear. Please contact me if not. I will try and clarify, if I can’t do that, I am sure Mary will come to our rescue.
Close of Entries for both Prelim and Area is 3 weeks before, I make that 20th January 2012.

Bishop Burton jumping/ combined training and Windsor Horse show qualifier

Hi Please find enclosed the schedule for Bishop Burton on 12th Feb.
I am sorry but we feel that we have to limit the entries to 2 Senior and 2 Junior teams for the jumping and 1 Senior and 1 junior for the Combined Training.
This is a hard decision but to be able to finish on time, it is necessary.
If it makes it any easier, East Yorks (my club) have no Junior section and could quite happily have filled at least 2 teams for the combined training.
Hope to see you all there on a bright unseasonably warm day.
